Despite a well-fought battle on Wednesday, Feb. 22, the Concordia men’s basketball team ultimately lost 90-98 to the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers.

The Bulldogs had been victorious over the Tigers the past two times the teams met this season but were unable to pull off a three-peat.

The lead changed five times throughout the game, and both teams were offensively aggressive. Though the Bulldogs took the lead at halftime, the Tigers took it back after the break.

Senior guard Eli Ziegler led the team with 15 points, while senior center Chandler Folkerts and freshman guard Jake Hornick followed with 14 points each.

On the other side, Tiger player Ty Hoglund scored 37 points, and Trae Vandeberg also brought 24 points.
The loss marked for the end of a career for seniors Folkerts, Seth Curran, Ziegler, and Justin Damme.

During the 2016-2017 season, Folkerts scored 566 points with an average of 18 points per game. Folkerts also finished the season with 250 rebounds and 190 defensive rebounds. Curran scored 259 points this season with a team high of 126 assists. In his 1,007 minutes played in his senior season, Ziegler knocked down 98 3-pointers and scored 513 points. Damme finished his season with a .593 field goal percentage.

The season was also the beginning of a successful career for players like Tanner Shuck, Clay Reimers, Jake Hornick and Brevin Sloup. These freshmen quickly adjusted to college play and were a key component to the team’s accomplishments.

Although they will be without some fundamental players of the past years, the Bulldogs have much to look forward to in the 2017-2018 season.
