The Concordia track team won eight event titles at Doane University this weekend, while also competing at the Kansas Relays and the Sioux City Relays. The solid showing across the board proves why both teams are ranked third in the nation.

Senior Zach Lurz won the hammer throw by four meters with a distance of 59.9 meters. He also finished third in the shot put and fourth in the discus toss. Senior Cody Boellstorff finished third in the discus with a distance of 49.41 meters, again setting a national qualifying mark. Fellow senior Lucas Wiechman finished third in the long jump with a distance of 6.69 meters.

On the women’s side of the field events, sophomore Allison Brooks won the pole vault with a distance of 3.7 meters. Senior Tricia Svoboda’s distance of 52.32 meters in the hammer throw won her the title by a close margin. Svoboda also finished runner-up in the discus throw and picked up a third place finish in the javelin throw.

Lucas Wiechman and fellow senior Benjamin Hulett finished first and third in the 110-meter hurdles, and Wiechman’s winning time of 15.05 seconds was only .22 in front of Hulett. Hulett added a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles as well. Senior Taylor Mueller took the steeplechase title in a time of 9:49, and junior Kohlton Gabehart finished second with a time of 10:06.55. The men’s 4×800 team won the team title with a time of 7:49.23.

Sophomore Taylor Grove won the women’s 5000-meter run with a time of 19:14.79. Junior Emily Sievert finished third in the 10000-meter run with a time of 40:12.41. Finally, the women’s 4×400 team won their relay by 10 seconds over the Concordia B team, securing a 1-2 finish to cap off the weekend.

Earlier in the week, select Concordia athletes competed in Kansas and Sioux City, Iowa. In Kansas, Cody Boellstorff won the men’s hammer throw with a 62.93 meter distance. In Sioux City, Allison Brooks placed fifth in the pole vault.

Concordia will travel to Nebraska Wesleyan on Thursday April 27 to compete. Select Bulldog athletes will travel to the Drake Relays, held April 27-29 in Des Moines, Iowa.
