Home Sports Track and Field Takes Home Team Titles at Grand View

Concordia’s track team won both the men’s and women’s cumulative totals at the NAIA Midwest Quad on Friday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa.

Four Concordia throwers improved their distances from last week’s Concordia Invite. Senior Cody Boellstorff pushed his national-best hammer throw to a new high of 65.98 meters, taking first place by almost 10 meters. Senior Philip Kreutzer and freshman Jacob Cornelio rounded out the top three in the event. Senior Zach Lurz took home the title in the shot put with a throw of 16.14 meters, beating out Boellstorff and Kreutzer to the crown.

Sophomore Scott Johnson finished second in the men’s triple jump with a distance of 12.99 meters. In the steeplechase, senior Taylor Mueller won with a sub-10 minute time of 9:47:27. Senior Lucas Wiechman finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.82 seconds, followed by senior Benjamin Hulett at 15.34 seconds. Senior CJ Muller also finished runner-up in the 400-meter dash.

On the women’s side, Concordia took the top five spots in the shot put, led by junior Samantha Liebermann with a throw of 14.24 meters. The Bulldogs also went 1-2-3 in the discus toss, with freshman Mariah Huneke taking first place with a toss of 35.77 meters. Sophomore Allison Brooks won the long jump with a distance of 3.2 meters, and freshman Sophia Hoelz had the best high jump at 1.5 meters.

Finally, sophomore Jacy Johnston won the women’s steeplechase in a time of 12:37:70.

Up next for the Bulldogs is the Jim Dutcher Invitational hosted by Doane College. The event will take place Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22.
