The Sower’s 2025-2026 managing editor aims to capture campus memories
By Nora Betts
Managing Editor
Hello, and welcome to the start of the 2025-2026 school year! I am beyond excited to be back on campus, and I pray that you are, too!
My name is Nora Betts, and this is my second year as the managing editor of The Sower! I’m a senior studying Journalism & Public Relations, English, and Pre-Deaconess, and I’m in the Luke Scholars program.
You might notice the ridiculous number of times my name is in this Welcome Edition. I love The Sower, so I devote a lot of time to making it awesome. However, it doesn’t just exist for me or for any other Sower reporter.
The Sower exists for you and for all of us.
Journalism is important because it allows our stories and experiences to live on for years to come. This is what The Sower is constantly offering you– a chronicle of campus memories to read and remember.
When you attend a sporting event, a campus presentation, an improv show, or a holiday celebration, a Sower reporter is capturing those moments, interviewing you or your peers, and sharing that experience with the campus community.
Pro tip: the stories in the print newspapers are not the only things we write! Our website— www.cunesower.com— has years’ worth of stories written by students like you with quotes from students like you! It is constantly being updated with sports stories, campus news, podcast episodes, cartoons, and more.
Yes, The Sower exists to fairly and accurately report on campus events. But more than that, it exists to tell your stories and strengthen our community.
I hope that you all come to love The Sower as much as I do! Actually, that’s probably impossible. So, I hope you come to love The Sower at least a little bit!
I also want to hear your feedback! Email me at nora.betts@student.cune.edu with your comments, story ideas, photos, funny cartoons, or anything else I can use to improve The Sower!
If you are interested in working for The Sower– especially if you’re a journalism major!– email me! Sower reporters have the fantastic opportunity to put great journalistic experience on their resumes, participate in a working newsroom, and learn professional ethics guided by the Society of Professional Journalists.
Whether this is your first, fourth, or more than fourth year on campus, I pray that God blesses you richly in the months to come! Things will get tough and stressful and overwhelming at points, but things will also get exciting and awesome and joyful. I know I’m looking forward to another semester of sleep deprivation– courtesy of both late-night homework and late-night memories with friends.
I’ll see you around campus– let’s say hi or catch up! I hope that The Sower becomes a part of your college experience, and I pray that you have an amazing year with plenty of memories we can capture.
