A select few Concordia track and field athletes competed in the UNL Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln on Feb. 3 and 4.

The big news from the event came from freshman Adrianna Rodencal, who broke a school record with her preliminary time in the 60-meter hurdles. Her time of 8.80 seconds narrowly beat the previous record holder, senior Rachel Battershell, who had a time of 8.81 seconds.

Battershell also participated in the 60-meter hurdles with a preliminary time of 9.23. Unfortunately, neither Rodencal nor Battershell were able to make the finals. Rodencal placed ninth and Battershell 11th.

Rodencal also participated in the 60-meter dash. She did not make the finals in that event either, but placed 14th with a time of 7.92. She placed 14th in the women’s 200-meter dash as well with a time of 25.76.

Battershell ran in the women’s 400-meter dash also, placing 22nd with a time of 1:00.30. Junior Colton Meyer placed 12th in the men’s 400-meter dash with a time of 49.32.

Juniors Rylee Haecker and Calvin Rohde ran the women’s and men’s one mile run. Haecker placed 14th with a time of 5:08.24 and Rohde placed eighth with a time of 4:12.33.

Concordia also sent two teams to Lincoln to compete in the 4×400-meter relay. The women’s team, made up of Battershell, sophomores Jenna Esch and Jordan Koepke, and freshman Kayla Kirschner, placed seventh with a time of 3:55.66. The men’s team, made up of Meyer, freshman Liam Fagan, sophomore Colby Sugden, and senior Mark Cooke, placed 13th with a time of 3:21.62.

The track team competes again at the Concordia University Invite on Feb. 10 in the Walz Fieldhouse. This is the last regular season invite for the Bulldogs before the Great Plains Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships, set to be held in Seward on Feb 17-18.
