Concordia honored their seniors on this year’s senior day by snapping a four-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Central Christian College.

One of the biggest stories out of the game was sophomore Ricards Busmeisters, who scored Concordia’s first two goals. Busmeisters’ first career goal was created by a successful press of the opposition goalkeeper. Busmeisters managed to steal the ball off of him and tap it into the empty net. His second was a header off a corner kick from Oliver Benson.

Busmeisters also had a strong second half of the game, where, even without scoring any more goals, kept the pressure on Central with several more shots.

Into the second half, Concordia’s dominating presence on the field continued. Senior Adrian Wambua showed great chemistry with center back partner Michael Wyvill. From the backline, the two provided passing support and communication to their teammates and cover in front of their goal.

Another one of Concordia’s seniors is goalkeeper Iñigo Chavarria Beunartea, who kept Central at bay in the second half with two diving saves in the Concordia net. Despite a stronger offensive presence later in the second from Central, the Bulldogs were able to add to their score with a goal from Jasper Hofland, whose mad dash to the goal let him score a cross from Milo Hegarty, which gave Concordia a 3-0 lead.

In the final minutes of the game, Central Christian scored their first and only goal of the game, making it 3-1. At that point, however, the damage was already done, and Concordia men’s soccer ended their Saturday celebrating not only their seniors, but also a big 3-1 victory over Central Christian College.

The seniors honored were Beunartea, Benson, Slade Leicht, Lance Kiango, Caleb Babisak, Wambua, Kondwani Mtawali and Santiago Abadia.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Sept. 10 when they will travel to preseason No. 7 Bellevue University. Kickoff for that match is at 7:30 p.m.
