Halfway into the semester, Concordia’s freshmen are having a pretty good experience, but there have been a few challenges, such as adjusting to classes and the new environment.

       Adah Pflughoeft

“It’s been a good experience meeting new people, and it’s kind of amazing how connected you get with people you have only known for a few weeks,” said Adah Pflughoeft, a biology major.

Pflughoeft has been able to make connections through her Luke Scholars class and activities such as CU Swing Dance Club and the Attic Bible Study.

   Quinlan Hendrickson

Quinlan Hendrickson, a Criminal Justice and Pre-Law student, said he has had a great eight weeks or so since arriving on campus. “There are lots of little activities and events that the school puts on that make life so much more interesting,” he said.

Hendrickson’s favorite “little activity” was building his own stuffed animal through the Student Life Office’s Build Your Own Stuffed Animal afternoon activity.  “It was insane,” Hendrickson said. ” We got to mess around in line and make animals.”

Hendrickson said that Becoming a Luke Scholar is his most difficult class due to the amount of reading, as well as the difficult papers that he has to write.

       Matthew Koenig

Business major Matthew Koenig said he had a “fantastic” first eight weeks, especially with his experiences in debate and studying in Dunk Tank, which is the glass encased study area on the second floor of Dunklau.

       Katie Welker

Katie Welker is currently an undecided major.  The best part of her experience has been getting into a routine that includes playing pool with friends and studying at Janzow. Welker said the beginning of the semester wasn’t overly busy but things “started picking up after the first few  weeks,” especially in her U.S. History class.

       Jacob Deines

Jacob Deines, a Secondary Education major, said that he has gotten into the groove of things even though classes were difficult at first, especially Calculus II.  Deines said that his favorite activity so far has been intramural frisbee golf.
