The Concordia Bulldog wrestling team won the home opening dual against Midland 45-6 Wednesday evening.

The Bulldogs started off strong with a good showing at home against a Great Plains Athletic Conference rival. Concordia had ten wrestlers slated to compete in the meet, but due to two forfeits, they won seven out of the eight bouts.

Freshman Martim Moniz (125 lbs) kicked off the competition with a pin against his opponent 2:49 into the match in his college debut, giving the Bulldogs six points.

Senior Creighton Baughman (141 lbs) won by a technical fault, notching another five points for Concordia.

Junior Tracy Allen (149 lbs) won a 15-8 decision in the third dual match to add three more points to Concordia’s total.

Freshman Barret Brandt (165 lbs) was the second freshman of the night to pin his opponent at 2:02 into the bout, putting up another six points.

Senior Stephen Duffy (174 lbs) and junior Hunter Weimer (184 lbs) won by major decisions, adding four points apiece.

Junior Mason Garcia (197lbs) won by technical fault to give Concordia five more points.

Sophomore Cy Renney (285 lbs) lost his match, getting pinned at the 6:05 mark.

Junior Jeaven Scdoris (157 lbs) and sophomore Grant Wells (133 lbs) both won by forfeit, which gave the Bulldogs 12 more points to win 45-6.

Concordia is now 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the GPAC. They have a meet on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 9 a.m. in Indianola, Iowa.
