Concordia’s 2017 Homecoming is set to be full of activities for all the students on campus as well as alumni and families. This year’s theme is “Grace Alone” and every day of the week from September 18 to September 23 is packed full of excitement. Each day of the week has a theme, allowing for students to dress up and get into the Bulldog spirit.

Monday is Super Hero Day. DC, Marvel, or one of your own creation – all Bulldogs are super, and we want to see it!

Tuesday’s theme is Jersey Day. We know that the Bulldogs are your favorite sports teams, but who else do you support? Tuesday also features the six-on-six co-ed volleyball tournament at Janzow’s sand volleyball court and the three-on-three co-ed basketball tournament at the outdoor court in front of David Hall, both at 8 p.m.

On Wednesday, Concordia gets fancy for “Dress Your Best” day. Wear your spiffiest outfit and show how cool Bulldogs can be. Keep your duds on for the Variety Show, which is at 8 p.m. in Weller Auditorium. Come and support your fellow students as they show off their amazing talents. Homecoming King and Queen will also be announced at the Variety Show! Voting for King and Queen takes place September 15-20.

Thursday is the day for class pride. Which Concordia class is the loudest and the proudest? To rep your class, wear the assigned color: freshman, white; sophomores, green; juniors, red; and seniors, blue.

Bulldog Pride will be in full-force on Friday. Wear all your Concordia gear and head to the outdoor chapel at 9 p.m. for Praise and a bonfire.

On Saturday, the festivities continue. Starting at 11 a.m. in Holthus Plaza, check out the Homecoming Fair and Tailgate! Activities will include airbrush tattoos, two bounce houses, a photo booth, and live music from campus band Search for Seven. There will also be a Feed the Dawgs table set up. Donate money or cans and you can help one faculty or staff member get a pie in the face! Head Football Coach Daberkow, Campus Nurse Andreea Baker, Pastor Matthias, Director of Alumni and University Relations Jenn Furr, and President Friedrich are all in the running.

A new feature of this year’s fair will be “travelogue” presentations by some of the faculty and staff of Concordia. Assistant Professor Biology Jennifer Fruend will be speaking about the Biology/Ecology trip to Costa Rica/Belize, Professor of English Dr. Daniel Thurber will speak about his London Study Tour, and Director of Global Opportunities Julie Johnston-Hermann will give a presentation about Concordia’s mission and study options abroad. There will also be a historical video shown in TLEC Auditorium.

This year’s fair includes tailgating. Similar to the freshman tailgate during LAUNCH weekend, campus dining services will be serving tailgate food outside, such as hamburgers and hotdogs. All students can swipe their IDs and enjoy!

After eating your fill and enjoying all the activities, the homecoming football game begins at 1 p.m. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play the rival, Doane College!

Finally, the celebrations will wind down with the Homecoming Dance at 10 p.m. on Saturday in Holthus Plaza. There will be snack stations with popcorn, juice, hot chocolate, and candy. In case of rain, the dance will be in the PE gym.

For more information, check out the posters around campus or talk to one of the student co-chairs of Homecoming, Michael Sanderson and Anna Holle.
