Home Sports Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams Win Decisive Victories Over Midland

The Concordia men’s and women’s basketball teams traveled to Fremont Wednesday evening to play Midland University, where the women thumped their opponents with a final score of 102-64 and the boys followed it up with another sound victory, winning 91-63.

The women started the scoring early, putting up 35 in the first quarter to Midland’s 15. The Bulldogs continued the dominance, winning every quarter but the third. Sophomore Taysha Rushton had a phenomenal night, going 10-11 from the field and 7-7 from three. Fellow sophomore Abbie Krieser also had a great game, adding an additional 20 points of her own along with eight rebounds and five steals. The Bulldogs also were a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line.

The men also had a fantastic start to the game, holding a 44-27 lead at the half. They only added to that lead in the second half, putting up an additional 47 points. Three Bulldogs combined for 60 of the team’s 91 points. Sophomores Gage Smith and Bradley Bennett had 22 and 16 points apiece, while junior Garret Seagren put up 22 points of his own. Senior Gage Smith had a great game, obtaining a double-double with 11 rebounds and 11 assists.

The Concordia women’s team improves to 16-7 overall and 12-5 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The men’s team is now 15-9 overall and 9-7 in the GPAC. Both teams play on Feb. 4 in CUNE’s Friedrich Arena against Dordt University.
