It was a hard-fought game that resulted in a 1-0 victory for Concordia University Men’s soccer team. The lone goal scored by sophomore Matt Schultz was just enough to defeat the Midland Warriors.

Midland being a 2019 NAIA national qualifier created an even match with both teams attempting eight shots total

After a corner kick from sophomore Yessine Bessaies, Schultz was able to kick the ball past Midlands goalie in the 42 minute mark. Schultz didn’t just score the lone goal of the night, he also helped Freshman goalkeeper Federico Andrea Simonetti maintain a clean sheet on the night. This was the first shutout Midland has had of the 2020 season.

Simonetti had a total of five saves on the night, making this the fourth shutout of the season for the Bulldogs. Concordia had to shut down Midlands top striker Mario Bueso who has eight goals on the season. Bueso was held to one shot on the night.

Sophomore Daniel Campbell made his second start of the season while collecting two shots of his own (one on goal). Senior Garrett Perry was constantly keeping the pressure on Midlands goalie as he collected three shots total (two on goal).

Next up for the Bulldogs will be Wednesday Nov. 11 at Morningside College. Kick off is set for 8 p.m. CT. In 2019, the Mustangs won the Great Plains Athletic Conference regular season title. This 2020 season, the Mustangs are 5-2, 4-1 GPAC.
