Behind the strong defense and a dominant day by freshman running back Dylan Mika, the Concordia Bulldogs defeated the Briar Cliff Chargers by a score of 37-14, advancing to 5-4 on the season.
The Bulldogs had a fast start as they jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first half off of a rushing touchdown by Mika and a receiving touchdown by graduate student Adam Van Cleave, the 21st of his Bulldog career. However, the Dawgs would only go into halftime with a 21-14 lead. The third touchdown of the game was yet again another rush by the freshman Mika.
The Concordia defense was showcasing their talent as they held the Chargers scoreless in the second half, which propelled the Dawgs to the win. The defense forced one fumble on the day and sacked Briar Cliff quarterback Brock Saya a total of seven times.
The Bulldogs outmatched the Chargers in total yardage, 517-319.
Dylan Mika’s day was not over after just two touchdowns, and with just 39 seconds left in the third quarter, he took it 55 yards on a house call for his third touchdown of the day. He put together an impressive game with 223 total rushing yards on 29 attempts to go along with his three touchdowns.
The Bulldogs’ win pushed them to 5-4 on the season and gives them the confidence they need heading into the last week of the regular season. On November 14, they will face the Midland Warriors in Seward at Bulldog Stadium. The game against Midland will also be the Senior Day celebration for the Dawgs.
