Concordia men’s soccer improved its spotless conference record to 5-0 with a four-goal second half in a victory on the road over Great Athletic Plains Conference foe Mount Marty University on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs entered the second half of play tied 1-1 with the Lancers, but lit up the scoreboard with four goals on the strength of 10 shots in the second frame. Concordia tallied 16 shots during the contest, with 11 attempts on goal.
Freshman Elijah Fulton led the Bulldog attack with two goals. Fulton made the most of every opportunity he got, as it only took him two shots in the game to record his first multi-score game.
Fulton broke the scoreless tie in the 29th minute of play, assisted by sophomore Joseph McCarroll, and knocked his second score into the back of the net after a pass from senior Hugo Garrote to push Concordia’s lead to 4-1 in the 64th minute of the game. Fulton also drew a penalty kick early in the second half, which was dispatched by junior Sean Stratman
McCarroll contributed to Concordia’s offensive production with an assist and a score of his own against the Lancer defense. The Scotland native McCarroll has a team-leading five goals on the season and has scored in consecutive games. McCarroll gave the Bulldogs the go-ahead score on a corner kick two minutes into the second half.
Sophomore Connor Robbins found the back of the net in the 82nd minute of the contest, rounding out the offensive masterpiece for Concordia.
Junior Florian Quast tallied four saves on six Mount Marty shots on goal during his 90 minutes of action.
The Bulldogs stand alone at the top of the GPAC with a 7-4-0 record on the year. Concordia will face Dakota Wesleyan in Bulldog Stadium on Oct. 10, at 3:30 pm.
