Hundreds of Concordia students, faculty and staff, and Seward community members gathered on Weller lawn for the university’s seventh annual Dinner and a Movie event on Aug. 29, which featured a showing of Disney’s Tangled plus several food trucks and other Tangled-themed activities.
The event is held on Concordia’s campus, but it is a community-wide event.
“We really want to reach the whole community,” said Concordia’s Senior Director of Outreach Jen Furr. “So, our students, we want to reach our faculty and staff, but we also want to reach all of our Seward community. And so we even invite all of the elementary school kids, so flyers went home in all their backpacks this week.”
Many new and returning Concordia students attend this event every year. Freshman communications and Spanish major Averil Finnern said that Dinner and a Movie “is an amazing opportunity for people to come together within the school and within the community and to experience very uniquely Seward things.”
The annual event is run by student workers in Concordia’s Advancement Office. These students lined up the food trucks, chose the movie, and came up with additional activities like a photo set-up, sidewalk chalk art, and a hair braiding station. The food trucks at the event included Chartwells, Cooler’s Food Truck, Nebraska Burger Co., Stur 22, What’s the Scoop?, and 10:31 Coffee.
The food trucks opened at 5 p.m., and the event concluded around 10 p.m.
