The Concordia women’s soccer team defeated the Midland Warriors by a score of 8-0 Wednesday evening, a win that named the Bulldogs Great Plains Athletic Conference regular season champions.

The Bulldogs offense was firing on all cylinders as they scored three goals in the first half and added five in the second.

The sophomore duo of Guadalupe Sanchez and Kyanna Perez both had two goals. Sanchez had both of hers in the first half, and Perez capitalized on her opportunities in the second.

The defense of Concordia was suffocating as they allowed zero goals as well as zero shots on goal. Midland had no answer for Concordia’s defense as they had just four total shots in the game. The Dawgs outshot Midland 34-4 in Wednesday’s match.

The Bulldogs end their regular season atop the GPAC with an overall record of 10-3-3 and 9-1-1 in conference play.

“I’m super proud of the team; we’ve worked hard all season through training and games to get this opportunity,” coach Jason Weides said.

Weides is not a stranger to winning, as last season, as the head coach of the men’s team, he led them to the GPAC tournament title.

The work doesn’t stop here for the Dawgs as they now look forward to postseason play.

“We want to be playing our best soccer at this time, and I think we still have levels to get to… we have to take it one game at a time,” Weides said.

The win sealed a share of the GPAC title for Concordia, as both Hastings and Morningside finished with an identical conference record. Hastings received the automatic bid for nationals for winning the league and earned the top seed in the GPAC tournament.

The Bulldogs now go into the GPAC tournament as the number two seed and will host their quarterfinal match against College of Saint Mary on Nov. 3 at Bulldog Stadium.
