The Concordia Men’s Basketball game kicked off their start in conference play with a win over Midland University with a score of 82-85 on Tuesday night.

With little struggle, the Bulldogs came out ready to play against the Midland Warriors.

The team took a solid lead in the first half without looking back. Starters for the game included senior Sam Scarpelli and juniors Carter Kent, Justin Wiersema, Gage Smith, and Klay Uher.

Right away for the Bulldogs was Scarpelli with a three-pointer. Not too long after that shot, he came back with a layup only to be fouled by Midland’s defense to score an old fashioned free throw.

The Bulldogs took an easy lead at the half with a score of 41-25. Entering the second half, the team did not slow down the pace and kept up the speed. Back on the floor after healing from an injury was senior Grant Wragge. Playing aggressively and fast, Wragge had two points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Junior Klay Uher, sophomore AJ Watson, and freshman Cory Davila each brought in eight points. Four players ended with double figures in points including, Scarpelli and Wiersema with 12 and Kent with 15.

Smith was another but also earned a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. In a total of the last five games, Smith now has 56 rebounds. As a team, the Bulldogs outrebounded the Warriors on both offense and defense. The team’s shooting percentage hovered at 43.1% going 28-for-65.

With a final score of 82-55, the Bulldogs won with an easy lead by 27 points. The Concordia men will be back in action this Saturday at 4 p.m. in Friedrich Arena.
