Concordia softball’s winning streak ended at nine on Saturday as they split a GPAC doubleheader with Mount Marty.

Concordia moved to 29-11 on the season (11-5 GPAC).

In the first game, both teams scored in the first inning, but Concordia had a 4-1 lead partly thanks to freshman Taryn Thomas’ two-RBI single. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the second to stretch their lead to 6-1. Sophomore Leah Kalkwarf added a run in the third to make it a six-run lead for the Bulldogs. Mount Marty fought back, scoring a run in the third and scoring two in the sixth inning to make it 7-4 Bulldogs. That was how the game would end.

Thomas and Kalkwarf led the Bulldogs with two hits each. Junior pitcher Michaela Woodward picked up the win.

The second game started with the Lancers scoring a run in the first to take the 1-0 lead. Concordia was held scoreless through the first two innings, and in the top of the third Mount Mary capitalized. The Lancers scored two to open up a 3-0 lead on the Bulldogs, but Concordia scored a run in the bottom of the inning and made it a two-run game. The game went quiet until Woodward drove in a run to make it 3-2 and give the Bulldogs a chance. In the top of the seventh, Mount Mary scored to take a 4-2 lead and end the Bulldogs’ win streak.

Up next for the Bulldogs is a GPAC doubleheader against College of Saint Mary. First pitch from Plum Creek Park is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26.
