Concordia’s women’s basketball team, the defending national champions, smothered their northeastern opponent Briar Cliff University 113-59.

Notable players included freshman Taylor Farrell who lead the Bulldogs in points (14); seniors Grace Barry and Mackenzie Helman combined for 17 of the Bulldogs’ 31 assists; and seniors Riley Sibbel, Philomena Lammers and Barry, who together recorded 13 steals.

Briar Cliff dropped their first conference game of the year and currently are on a four-game losing streak.

The Bulldogs led the Briar Cliff Chargers 48-34 and only held a 14-point advantage going into the half. But Concordia picked up the pace, increasing their overall 3-point percentage and field goal percentage by 10% and doubling their points off turnovers, bench points, steals, blocks and assists. Concordia showed their second half dominance on the scoreboard, outscoring Briar Cliff 65 to 25.

The Bulldogs are on a six-game win streak and will host College of Saint Mary on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Tipoff is held at 7 p.m. in the Walz Arena.
