Concordia baseball faced the Northwestern Red Raiders in a doubleheader on Monday for the team’s GPAC home opener. The Bulldogs fell to the Red Raiders in both competitions 4-1 in the first game and 12-5 in the second.

The lone run in game one came from senior Christian Montero thanks to a double by junior Kaleb Geiger. In game two, Northwestern scored 11 of its 12 runs in the first four innings, making it a difficult comeback for Concordia. The five runs for the Bulldogs came from senior Casey Berg with three runs and Geiger with two.

In game one, senior Josh Prater pitched up until the seventh inning, when freshman Desmond Pineda came in to close the game. Freshman Nick Little started game two but was replaced by freshman Jake Fosgett in the third inning. In the seventh inning, senior Nic Seaman subbed in to pitch for Fosgett for the remainder of the game.

The Bulldogs redeemed themselves against Midland on Tuesday night. They fell in the first game 4-1 but thumped the Warriors in game two 12-0.

Freshman pitcher Wade Council was the star of the show, striking out 10 of Midlands’s players to earn the Bulldogs’ first conference win of the season. After Tuesday’s performance, Concordia is now 12-12 on their season, 1-3 in GPAC play.

Next up, the Bulldogs will travel to Yankton, South Dakota, to face Mount Marty for a doubleheader on Saturday and will trek to Sioux City, Iowa, to battle against Morningside on Sunday.
