Home Sports Bulldog football takes down Midland

by Maddy Peters

Concordia beat Midland University 21-7 behind the Bulldogs six interceptions in Saturday’s game at Bulldog Stadium.

Midland started off the game with a 23-yard pass from quarterback Jake Ashby to Dalton Tremayne in the first three minutes of the game. Concordia’s offense struggled against Midland’s defense, with three fourth down turnovers in a row.

At the start of the second quarter, Concordia’s Peyton Mitchell snagged a 32-yard interception. During this possession, Jonah Weyland rushed for two yards to score the Bulldogs’ first touchdown of the game.

Later in the second quarter, Mitchell intercepted another pass from Ashby. In this possession Korrell Koehlmoos completed a 15-yard pass to Garrett Schardt for another touchdown. In the last few seconds of the first half, Concordia’s Gabe Knisely intercepted another pass from Ashby.

At the start of the second half, DJ McGarvie completed a 14-yard pass to Cayden Beran for a touchdown. Later in the quarter, Mitchell intercepted a fourth pass from Ashby. In the fourth quarter, Concordia’s Isiaha Conner and Kam Baker each caught an interception bringing the total interceptions to six.

Concordia senior Lane Napier hit a big milestone as he reached 500 career tackles in this game.

“The reason I have this is because of the teammates I have,” Napier said. “Them taking on blocks and leaving stuff open for me. It’s not all me, it’s pretty much a team thing,”

He also gave some advice for current and future Bulldogs.

“Don’t give up and work hard,” Napier said. “I came in freshman year as a running back and they put me at linebacker. I just kept trying my best.”

Concordia is now 5-3 overall, 5-3 in the GPAC. The Bulldogs will play their last home game of the season Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. against Doane for senior day.
