The Concordia University softball team traveled to Lindsborg, KS on Sunday, Feb. 28, beating the Bethany College Bison in a doubleheader. The first game came close with a score of 5-4, and a blowout of 10-0 in the second.

During the first game, Bethany College was the first to make it around the bases in the first inning, taking the lead until the third inning. Sophomore Kylee Nixon was the first to make it around the bases tying the score at 1-1. Concordia’s bats found the ball in the fourth inning when four runs were scored, taking the lead at 5-1. The Bison found a few more runs past the Bulldog defense raising the score to 5-4.

Sophomore Camry Moore pitched to help get two groundouts, getting an out at the home plate to stop the Bison from scoring again. Moore went on to pitch in the seventh inning not letting another run score and recorded eight total strikeouts.

In the second game, the Bulldogs run-ruled the Bison in five innings after scoring 10-0. In a run-rule game, if one team scores eight runs after five innings and the opponent hasn’t scored any, the game is called early.  Freshman pitcher Jerzi Rowe showed her success in the second game. Rowe allowed only one hit, one walk, and pitched seven strikeouts.

Freshman Brena Brown and sophomore Kylee Nixon both pounded out three hits each. The Bulldogs scored two runs in the first inning and five in the second to take an assertive lead. By the end of the day, the team recorded a total of 19 hits.

The Bulldogs now take a 4-0 record after previously taking two wins against Benedictine College. Next, the team will travel to Wichita, KS to play in the Friends University Invitational Tournament on Mar. 5-7.
