Records were broken and national qualification was achieved for multiple Concordia athletes at the inaugural meet of the 2025-2026 indoor track and field season on Dec. 12-13.
The Concordia Early Bird meet featured teams from across the Midwest and provided strong competition to start the season.
A headline of the event was All-American senior Adrianna Rodencal, who broke her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles while competing in the pentathlon. Rodencal ran 8.43 for the record and achieved the A standard of automatic qualification for nationals. Rodencal placed second in the pentathlon with a score of 3187.
Sophomore Adysen McCarter also took down a school record, this time on the field, as she produced an 11.91-meter triple jump. The jump was inches off the A standard for nationals, but was well within the B standard.
All-American Sophomore Jonny Jurchen continued his racewalking prowess with a second-place finish in the 3k racewalk. His time of 12:30.61 was good enough for the A standard. Freshman Jack Habegger also achieved the A standard with a 13:45.79, and sophomore Sam Olson and junior Luke Hammang earned the B standard.
Other B standards were junior Josiah Edwards in the weight throw with 18.04 meters, and the women’s 4×400, consisting of Rodencal, McCarter, senior Kayla Kirchner, and junior Tayden Kirchner.
Other event winners were freshman Trenton Kumm with a 2:00.50 in the men’s 800, senior Evan Hill with a 4.45 meter pole vault, and the men’s and women’s 4×800 meter relay
The Bulldog runners-up were freshman Rachel Harris with a 3:18.22 in the 1k and senior Myles Sadd with a 1.94-meter high jump.
The Bulldogs get a break for the Christmas season and return for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Graduate Classic and Doane University Invite on Jan. 16 and 17.
