Home Sports Bulldogs Defeated by Midland in GPAC Quarterfinals

by Chris Johnstone

The Concordia Bulldog volleyball team faced the No. 5 ranked Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska, for the opening round of the GPAC quarterfinals and were outlasted by the co-GPAC regular season champions, 3 sets to 1 on Tuesday night. (25-17, 27-29, 25-15, 25-20)

Junior defensive specialist Jocelyn Garcia led the charge defensively for the Bulldogs with 23 digs, but it was not enough to stop the offensive play of the Warriors.

“Defensively we knew their tendencies, so that made it a little easier to be in the right position,” Garcia said. “Any first touch on the ball helps the team, because it keeps the ball in play and allows for more opportunities.”

Midland’s middle blocker, Priscilla O’Dowd led the charge for the Warriors, slamming down 15 kills on the evening.

The team returns with many underclassman for next year.

“Everyone is aware of just how tough our conference is, so preparation for next season starts now,” Garcia said.

Moving forward, the Bulldogs say farewell to the following seniors: outside hitter Paige Getz, defensive specialist Hannah Oberle, outside hitter Naomi Quigg, right-side hitter Tiegen Skains, defensive specialist Allison Wiebe and middle hitter Taylor Workman.
