Home Sports Bulldogs Fall in Close Loss to No. 21 Midland

by Jordan McCoy

The Concordia men’s basketball team and the Midland Warriors battled on Wednesday, Nov. 16 in what the Bulldogs hoped to be their first win on the road this season. Midland is nationally ranked No. 21 and is currently undefeated with a record of 6-0 in this season. The Bulldogs made defensive efforts to shut them down but were unsuccessful in the 87-77 loss.

GPAC Player of the Week and senior Chandler Folkerts made yet another solid offensive effort, scoring 23 points. Sophomore transfer Chris Johnstone contributed 14 points. Freshmen Clay Reimers and Tanner Shuck scored 11 points each, which gave them the opportunity to see more playing time on the court. These points along with freshmen Jake Hornick and senior Justin Damme’s two points apiece helped tally 26 bench points for the Bulldogs to Midland’s 13.

Midland’s post Alex Starkel put up 24 points on the Bulldogs. Several starters for the Warriors scored points in the double-digits against Concordia on Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs look to get a conference win at their first home GPAC conference game on Saturday Nov. 19 against Mount Marty (3-4, 0-1 GPAC). The tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
