The win on Saturday night against Mount Marty Lancers was just what the men’s basketball team needed after a tough loss to No. 21 Midland University last Wednesday. The Bulldogs came out with energy and aggressiveness and beat Mount Marty by 33 points.
Going into this game, coach Ben Limback knew that his team needed to play a smart defense if they were going to shut down their leading scorer OJ Thok, who averages 17 points per game. The Bulldogs allowed the Lancers to score just 35 points in the first half and 34 in the second half.
Senior Chandler Folkerts led the offensive attack for Bulldogs with 22 points. Senior Eli Ziegler contributed 15 points. Freshman Seward native Brevin Sloup saw significant time in Saturday’s game, playing 18 minutes and scoring 12 points.
Limback used the significant lead as an opportunity to get some new players into the game and give the starters somewhat of a break. Senior Justin Damme scored 12 points, as did freshman Tanner Shuck. Freshman Jake Hornick put up 8 points and played 17 minutes. This win was a chance for some newcomers to gain experience and confidence on the court.
After Saturdays win, the Bulldogs improved to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the GPAC.
On Tuesday, Nov. 22, the Bulldogs will travel to Crete to face Doane College. The game begins at 8 p.m.
