The Concordia Bulldogs beat not one, but two nationally ranked opponents during their Christmas break trip to Miami, Florida.

The games were hosted by Florida Memorial University, which is located in Miami Gardens.

On Thursday, Dec. 29, the Bulldogs faced twenty-second ranked Florida Memorial University. The Bulldogs topped the Lions 95-85.

Senior center Chandler Folkerts was dominant offensively, leading the Bulldogs with 32 total points. Other key offensive powers were senior guard Eli Ziegler and freshman wing Tanner Shuck. Ziegler added 24 points while Shuck scored 20.

Folkerts’ game high allowed him to move to fourth place in the history of Concordia’s leading scorers. After both games in Florida, Folkerts now tallies 1,776 career points.

On Friday, Dec. 30, the Bulldogs’ work was not over. They faced twenty-first ranked St. Thomas University. The game was close, with the final score being 74-73 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Ziegler added 17 points in Friday’s game. Among Ziegler were Shuck with 15 points, Folkerts with 12 points, and senior guard Seth Curran adding eight points and seven assists.

In the last three minutes, St. Thomas made a comeback, scoring six points to the Bulldogs’ zero. Despite the lack of scoring toward the end of the game, the Bulldogs were able to hold off the Bobcats and finish with a victory.

With both wins in the Florida, the Bulldogs return to Seward with a 9-6 overall record.
The Bulldogs will face Briar Cliff University (13-4, 4-2 GPAC) on Wednesday in Walz Arena. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
