by Jacy Johnson

The Concordia cheer and dance teams traveled to Morningside College on Saturday, Feb. 13 to compete in the GPAC Invite. The cheer team finished third in its division and the dance team finished sixth.

“I am very proud of both teams’ performances at the GPAC Competition,” said coach Heather Duff. “They were so fun to watch and their energy levels were through the roof.”

The cheer team competed with a combined cheer and dance routine, and tallied a score of 72.93 in the non-stunt category. This competition was the last competition of the year for the cheer team.

“I am very excited for next season and am looking forward to pushing the teams with more difficult levels of technique and stronger performances,” Duff said.

The dance team scored 86.67 to defeat three GPAC schools and finish in sixth place. The dance team will look to improve for their next competition at Regionals on Friday, Feb. 26 in order to qualify for nationals held in March.

“One of the things we really focused on this season was confidence,” Duff said. “We really wanted the teams to be confident in themselves, the program and their performances. Seeing the teams’ confidence during and after their performances was a wonderful sight.”
