You see them cheering on the sidelines and dancing during the halftime shows, but on Wednesday, Jan. 25, Bulldog fans will have the chance to show their support for the cheer and dance teams as they compete against Hastings College in their first regular season competition.

Fans are encouraged to come show their support for the teams as they compete.

“Crowd involvement is huge,” cheer and dance coach Mandi Maser said. “Being present, paying attention, yelling, cheering, being excited for the girls…it really translates.”

The Concordia and Hastings dance teams will perform for two judges at halftime of the women’s basketball game. In addition to competing for scores, the duel will serve as a way for fans to keep their Bulldog spirit up to cheer on the basketball teams.

“You’re putting yourself out there for people to be entertained and to keep that momentum going,” Maser said. “Even though it’s the intermission… you want to keep that energy going so it keeps that school pride.”

While the men’s basketball team warms up, fans are encouraged to head next door to the P.E. Building to support the cheer team in their first full stunting competition.

This is the first year that the Bulldog cheer team has been able to compete with stunting, which the team has been working hard to perfect.

“We’re all just really happy to be doing something that makes the crowd happy and gets them involved in the game,” sophomore cheerleader Kennedy Garner said in an email interview. “I think our routine looks awesome, and it’s definitely worth the 6 a.m. practices.”

The scores of both competitions will be announced during halftime of the men’s basketball game.

This duel is the Bulldog’s first pre-season competition. Three pre-season competitions are necessary in order for the teams to compete in the regional qualifier.

Both the cheer and dance teams will have another duel on Feb. 8 at home against Doane University, and will also compete in the GPAC Cheer and Dance Championship on Feb. 11 in Hastings.
