Home News Concordia Kicks Off Winter Floor Wars with Comedian Act

by Hayden Rensner

On Friday, Jan. 11, Concordia’s annual Winter Floor Wars kicked off with the first competition of the year: figure skating.

Winter Floor Wars is a week-long competition between different residence halls. This year’s challenges include sledding, figure skating, cookie-decorating and archery. Three male teams and two female teams rallied on Friday evening to compete in figure skating, an activity that involved coming up with a team dance within a matter of minutes.

A song was previously chosen before the arrival of the teams. Each team had a  chance to listen to the song for one minute, plan their team’s dance for one minute, and then listen to the song again to establish any last-minute ideas. Audience members cheered while the teams performed to the best of their abilities.

Following the first Winter Floor Wars event, the Student Activities Council hosted two comedians, Jarell Roach and Arthur Anderson. These two men travel across the country visiting  schools, churches and campuses to share not only their comedic humor, but also to share their over-arching message of love. The night closed with an inspirational message from Roach, who spoke on unconditional love.

“No matter what you do, hear my heart. You do it with the sincere love of Jesus, and that is it,” Roach said.

The figure skating competition results will be announced Tuesday night, at the next Winter Floor Wars event.
