Home Sports Concordia Track and Field Takes Titles at Reiver Open

A small group of athletes from the Concordia track and field team took six individual titles at the Reiver Open in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Saturday.

Four-time national champion senior Zach Lurz made the most of his season debut when he took two individual titles on the day in the hammer throw and the shot put, with distances of 58.57 meters in the hammer throw and an NAIA-leading 17.54 meters in the shot put.  Senior Philip Kreutzer placed fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of 54.18 meters.

In the men’s running events, senior CJ Muller won the 800-meter race by two seconds with a time of 1:54:82. In the 1,500 meter, sophomore Josiah McAllister finished in third place with a time of 4:12:69.

Senior Kali Robb was on top of her game, picking up the shot put title with a throw of 14.20 meters, winning by 2.62 meters over the next competitor. Robb also won the hammer throw by four meters with a distance of 54.93 meters and now leads the nation in both events this year.

Senior Marti Vlasin took the individual title in the women’s 800 meter with a time of 2:22:52. Senior Quinn Wragge finished second at 2:22:71, one of four Bulldogs in the the top five finishers in the event.

Up next for the Bulldogs is their outdoor season home opener, the Concordia Outdoor Invitation. The events begin Friday, April 7, and continues on Saturday, April 8 at Bulldog Stadium.
