After losing the first set to Great Plains Athletic Conference rivals Doane, Concordia University volleyball stormed back to win the next three and extend its win streak to four games.

The Bulldogs struggled with poor hitting in the first set, finishing with an even number of kills and errors. Concordia was up 15-12, but nine unanswered Doane points were too much to come back from as the Tigers took the set 25-21.

Concordia quickly rectified their attacking situation, hitting .267 in the second set, .345 in the third and .167 in the fourth and final set.

The second and third sets were quite comfortable for Concordia, as Doane was kept at an arm’s length.

The fourth set had more back-and-forth action after the Bulldogs shot out of the gate to a 5-0 lead. Small streaks from each team meant that Doane was never out of sight, and brought the score to a close 24-22, but a kill from senior Kya Scott sealed the victory for Concordia.

As has been a theme throughout the season, the Bulldogs out-blocked their opponent with 18 block assists compared to Doane’s 10 assists and one solo. Junior Ava Greene led Concordia with five blocks. Junior Ella Waters and senior Molli Martin each contributed four.

Senior Ashley Keck led the team in total kills, 19 on 44 attempts with 9 errors. Senior Addie Kirkigaard boasted a .500 hitting percentage as she scored points on eight of 14 tries with just one error. Senior Lily Psencik had a team-high 23 assists, and freshman Emma Brueggmann had 14 digs.

The 11-1 (4-0 GPAC) Bulldogs are back in action on Sept. 24 to host Hastings at Friedrich Arena at 7:30 p.m.
