The Concordia volleyball team fell to the Midland University Warriors 3-2 in Fremont Wednesday night. The Bulldogs fought hard, but were edged out in a close fifth set.

Concordia’s first set was lively, with constant back-and-forth between the two teams. Midland narrowly beat Concordia 27-25. The second set went similarly, but this time the Bulldogs managed to make a decent lead and win the set 25-19. The third set did not go well for the Bulldogs at all. They struggled to score any points and lost the set 25-13.

Concordia regained confidence in the fourth set and held a firm lead throughout, winning 25-17 and sending the match into a fifth set. Much like the first two sets, the fifth set contained a lot of back-and-forth between the teams. However, Midland managed to find a final burst of energy and overwhelmed the Bulldogs, finishing the game 16-14.

Junior Camryn Opfer and sophomore Gabi Nordaker led the team in kills with 16 apiece, with sophomore Carly Rodaway right behind them with 14. Junior Bree Burtwistle once again led the team in assists with 53 for the night. Opfer and sophomore Rebecca Gebhardt led the team in digs with 18 each.

The volleyball team is now 10-1 overall and 1-1 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. They play again on Sept. 14 in Crete against Doane University.
