Home Sports Concordia Women’s Basketball Cruises in Season Opener

by Garrett Suchanek

The 2015-16 season brought new rules, new coaches and new players, but the results haven’t changed.

The No. 4 Concordia women’s basketball team routed No. 24 Mayville State 109-79 in its season opener at Walz Arena in the Cattle Classic.

The Bulldogs raced out to a 27-18 lead after the first quarter and didn’t take their foot off the gas pedal.

In the second quarter, Concordia outscored the Comets 34-15 to go into halftime with a comfortable 61-33 lead.

The Bulldogs continued to shoot lights out and wreak havoc with their full court press as they extended their lead and went into the fourth quarter up 88-57.

The fourth quarter was the only quarter that the Bulldogs were outscored, but Concordia’s lead was never challenged.

Concordia was led by sophomore Brenleigh Daum, who finished with 19 points. Freshman Quinn Wragge, senior Becky Mueller and sophomore Sydney Feller also finished with double digit points with 16, 15 and 12 points respectively.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Nov. 7 and take on No. 6 University of Jamestown (N.D.) at 1 p.m. in Walz Arena.
