Concordia’s Student Activities Fair and Global Opportunities Fair offers students many ways to be involved

Concordia students gathered at the Student Activities Fair and Global Opportunities Fair Tuesday night to learn about the many ways they can participate in on-campus events as well as opportunities to serve abroad.

The Student Activities Fair featured many different clubs and experiences for students to join in their free time. Booths included Blue River Pet Rescue, an opportunity for student volunteering. Also, the Tabletop Gaming Club which features board, card and role-playing games. Businesses like Sandhills Global were also there to network with students.

This annual event, held at the beginning of the school year, gives students, but especially freshmen and transfers, a chance to find clubs and learn what’s happening around campus. It also gives returning students a chance to rediscover clubs they’d forgotten about or learn about new ones, according to Anna Stumpf, assistant director of Student Life.

“It’s hard to always know what’s going on around campus, and so we want to have it right away, so that they can get plugged in for the rest of the semester,” Stumpf said.

Senior Tara Pester said it’s a great way for new students, especially, to get to know what’s happening around Seward.

“I enjoy the activities here a lot. I think it’s really great for new students, especially to get to know some of the businesses and churches throughout Seward,” Pester said.

Campus jobs were also advertised, including the Concordia Phonathon, which entails reaching out to alumni and friends of Concordia to request financial support, said Nathan Sollberger, a senior working for the program.

“We’re always looking to raise more gifts than we had the previous semester,” Sollberger said.

The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Office of International Missions had a booth for those looking to serve on a mission abroad.

“On a college campus, where there are people doing all kinds of things from church work to lay positions. We need all of it in the Mission field.” said Cadence Fulfs, a missionary preparing to serve in Belize as a Director of Christian Education. “So, whether that is a pastor or DCE or business managers… all of it plays a role in the mission field.”

Along with hosting the Student Activities Fair, the Student Life Office, with the help of the Counseling Office and the Health Center, will host its first wellness event at 2 p.m. Friday on the Quad, with this week’s event being a cornhole tournament.
