The Bulldog cheer and dance teams exchanged wins with Hastings in their first competition of the season on Jan. 25. The cheer team left with a victory, outscoring Hastings with a 74.4 to Hasting’s 71.85, but the Hastings dance team edged out the Bulldogs 75.7 to 74.
This was the cheer team’s stunting debut after the program was created last year. The teams had their initial training at Hastings.
Mats are required in order to perform stunting routines, which limits what the cheer team is able to do on the sidelines. In addition to the competition, the cheer team was able to show the crowd—which packed the PE Building—what their hard work has developed.
“Being competitive cheer and dance teams means that we learn from this duel and move onto the next, increasing our skill level and (continuing) to reach for our goals of getting to Nationals,” dance and cheer coach Mandi Maser said in an email interview. “We want to keep improving each practice and increase the level of difficulty in our competition routine.”
The dance and cheer teams will take on Doane in their next regular season duel on Feb. 8.
