A hard-fought defeat by Mid-America Nazarene University brought Concordia men’s soccer’s season to a close in the second round of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Soccer Championships on Nov. 22.
Concordia looked to threaten early with two shots on goal that were blocked by Mid-America Nazarene. The pioneers also threatened with some shots of their own and were eventually able to get one into the net for their first goal.
The rest of the first half continued where the Bulldogs were able to squeeze off one more shot, but couldn’t manage to put one on the board.
From the start of the second, the Bulldogs once again got off to a hot start with two successive blocked shots by juniors Oliver Benson and Hugo Garrote. The Bulldogs continued to threaten, but Mid America Nazarene came back with another goal that made it a 2-0 game.
Once again, Concordia’s offence brought the pressure to the Pioneers’ goal with another blocked shot, then a shot on goal, but they weren’t able to get anything past the Pioneers. That seemed to be the story for Concordia in the second half, who led the Pioneers 7-4 in shots overall but unfortunately couldn’t get the ball in the net.
In the final minutes of the game, Mid-America Nazarene scored its last goal of the game to bring the score to 3-0. The rest of the game played out with little excitement for either side until the clock ran out.
Despite the unfortunate defeat at the hands of the Pioneers, Concordia ended its memorable 2025 season with a 12-9-1 record and a Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament Championship title.
