Home Sports (RV) Bulldogs’ Softball Splits GPAC Opening Series

by Garrett Suchanek

The (RV) Concordia softball team started the GPAC portion of its schedule for the 2016 campaign on Monday afternoon and split the doubleheader with Northwestern College. The Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker in game one, but responded with a win in game two.

The Bulldogs are now 14-5 on the year and 1-1 in GPAC play.

In game one Concordia lost in the bottom of the eighth inning. A walk-off home run by the Red Raider’s Laura Hurley gave Northwestern College a 4-3 win. Despite the loss, two Bulldogs collected a multi-hit game. Juniors Kylie Harpst and Taylor Huff combined for four hits and two runs.

In game two the Bulldogs enjoyed a 7-2 victory, but needed a five-run seventh inning to earn the win. Concordia started the seventh inning with three straight base hits to start the scoring barrage. Huff capped off the scoring with a three-run home run to extend the Bulldogs’ lead to 7-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Red Raiders were able to plate a run on three hits, but that was all.

Concordia will take the field again at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30 when the Bulldogs take on Doane College in a doubleheader.
