Concordia’s softball team continued its rise in the GPAC by sweeping a doubleheader with Midland on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs are now 28-10 on the season (10-4 GPAC).

The first game of the doubleheader started off slowly for the Bulldogs, and Midland took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Concordia fought back in the third inning, scoring six runs and taking control of the game. After adding three runs more in the fourth inning to open up an eight-run lead, Concordia scored two in the fifth and shut the Warriors down to take an 11-1 victory.

Sophomore Leah Kalkwarf led the Bulldogs with three hits from the plate with three RBIs. Freshman Renee Watson also had three hits.

The second game started out just like the first game ended, and the Bulldogs scored four runs. Senior Kylie Harpst was in control on the mound and held the Warriors without a hit for the first five innings. Junior Michaela Woodward added to the Concordia lead with a three-run homer to make it 7-0 after five innings. Midland scored two runs in the seventh inning, bull fell short of making a comeback. The final score was 7-2 Concordia.

Woodward led the Bulldogs with two hits and three RBIs, and junior Autumn Owens added a home run.

Up next for Concordia is a GPAC doubleheader with Mount Marty. First pitch from Plum Creek Park is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 22.
