Home Sports Softball Pushes Win Streak to 5 and Sweeps Kansas Wesleyan

Concordia’s softball team swept a nonconference doubleheader with Kansas Wesleyan on Thursday afternoon at Plum Creek Park.

The Bulldogs pushed their record to 26-10 on the year.

In the first game, Concordia took a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a home run from sophomore Leah Kalkwarf. Junior Michaela Woodward held Kansas Wesleyan scoreless through four innings, and Concordia built its lead to four runs, helped by RBIs from senior Kylie Harpst and freshman Taryn Thomas. Wesleyan fought back with three runs in the fifth inning to cut the Bulldog lead to one. Woodward finished the game strong and secured a 4-3 Concordia win.

Kansas Wesleyan took a 2-0 lead into the third inning as the Bulldogs struggled to get going. In the third inning, the Bulldogs exploded with seven runs to take a 7-2 lead. Senior Megan Ruppert drove in two runs with a single in the fourth inning, and Concordia added three more to take a 12-2 lead. Harpst shut down Kansas Wesleyan, and the game ended after five innings as a 12-2 Bulldog win.

Woodward also had a home run for Concordia.

Up next for the Bulldogs is a GPAC doubleheader against Midland. First pitch from Fremont is at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18.
