by Matthew Goedeken

The Concordia baseball team wrapped up its four game series with the No. 20 Sterling College Warriors on Saturday, Feb. 20. The Warriors swept the Bulldogs 9-1 and 6-4 in the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs have a 2-6 record.

Concordia’s starting pitcher sophomore Neil Ryan pitched five innings and struck out two batters.

The Bulldogs were held scoreless until the seventh inning in the first game when senior Taylor Dudley scored off of an infield single hit by senior Alex Cargin.

The second game was closer than the first; the Warriors took it 6-4.

Concordia’s sophomore Taylor Bickel started on the mound. He threw for three innings and struck out two batters.

Sterling lead 3-0 after the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Bulldogs’ four-run top of the fifth inning gave Concordia a 4-3 lead. The top of the fifth started with Cargin singling to center, stealing second and getting to third on a wild pitch. Freshman Christian Meza got to first on a walk. Senior Taylor Bigandt singled and got the first RBI of the game for the Bulldogs. Later in the inning, junior Ryan Fesmire and Dudley allowed runners to come home to score off their hits.

The Bulldogs will travel to Ottawa, Kansas, for another four game series. The first doubleheader will be on Saturday, Feb. 27, and the last two games of the series will be on Sunday, Feb. 28.
