Concordia Nebraska has many student clubs, reflecting the different interests of a diverse campus. This is the sixth in a series of articles highlighting different clubs, their mission and their plans. This article is featured in the May print edition of the Sower newspaper.

The Law and Justice Club brings together people who are interested in law, criminal justice, psychology, public policy and more, to educate, inspire and empower them through meaningful conversations and experiences in the fields of law and justice. Club members promote civic awareness, critical thinking and leadership through engagement with real-world legal systems.

The club hosts monthly meetings featuring guest speakers, such as lawyers, judges, police officers and professors, who provide insight into legal careers and current justice issues. This year it hosted Concordia Nebraska adjunct professor Dr. Timothy Huntington, a board-certified forensic entomologist, who talked about his work on the Casey Anthony murder trial.

Mackenzie Houser, club co-president, said the club is open to all students, “whether you’re planning a career in law or just want to better understand your rights, justice systems, or current events.” She said it offers a “welcoming space for thoughtful conversations and real-world learning.”

Club members also attend field trips to law schools, participate in law-related events, and occasionally host mock drug raids at the Criminal Justice House.

“You’ll meet professionals, build leadership skills, and connect with peers who care about justice and advocacy,” Houser said. “It’s not just a club; it’s a step toward making a difference.”

More guest speakers and trips are planned for next year, according to Houser.

“We’re also exploring a field trip to a local law school or courthouse and other activities that our members might enjoy,” she said.

There are no requirements to join the club. Anyone is invited to come to events. Information is posted on the club Instagram page, @cune_lawandjustice.

Mission-Minded Students provides students with opportunities to serve God by serving others in everyday life. The club works to cultivate the mindset of a missionary with both local and global opportunities.

Student leader Brynn Holtmeier said that “mission-mindedness” means wanting to share God’s Word, sharing His love by serving others, providing those opportunities and showing what mission-mindedness looks like on both a local and global level.

Student leader Aly Gobin said that the purpose is to “bring awareness to the fact that you can be a missionary, do mission, right where you are.” The student leaders work together to find and share opportunities to grow members’ missionary mindset.

“A common misconception is that in order to be part of Mission-Minded Students is that you have to have the mindset of going overseas,” said Holtmeier. “There will always be people who need to hear the Gospel regardless of where you are.”

Gobin encourages people to show up and participate “especially on the weeks when we’re doing service projects.”

Mission-Minded Students have two events every month. These events often feature guest speakers or focus on service projects. Speakers often are missionaries who have participated in both local and global mission work.

“It’s great to see your fellow Christians are using their gifts to share the Word of God, even if it’s not something that you personally want to do,” Gobin said.

Service project opportunities are more frequent in the spring semester. This spring, the Mission-Minded Students Club made Easter baskets to give to Christ’s Food Cupboard at St. John and other schools. They also raised money to help those affected by the wildfires in California and held a blanket tying event to help unhoused people.

The “Beautiful Feet” conference is held in the fall, bringing the Concordia student body together to talk about how to join God and share His word. The conference offers details on how people can contribute to sharing the gospel, whether it be local opportunities or global opportunities.
