by Mary Wheeler

The Concordia women’s soccer team defeated Bethel College 5-0 at their home opener on Aug. 26, beginning the season with high expectations.

Last season, the women made history by winning the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and making it to the national stage.

Sophomore Esther Soenksen led the No. 21 ranked team with two goals; following, was sophomore Jessica Skerston with one goal, freshman and Seward, Neb., native Maria Deeter with one goal, and a goal from sophomore Jordan McCoy with a pass assist by Soenksen.

Goalkeeper Chrissy Lind also helped keep the shutout trend by accounting for two of the saves from the five attempted shots the Bethel Thrashers gave up.

The Bulldogs are 1-0, and will face No. 16 Bellevue College on Saturday, Aug. 28 at 5:30 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.
