Home Sports Women’s Tennis Collects its First Win

Saturday afternoon the Concordia women’s tennis team earned its first win of the season by defeating Bethany College 8-1.

The Bulldogs defeated the short-handed Swedes by sweeping doubles competition and winning five of six singles matches.

The Swedes only had three girls for the match, but still competed in one doubles match and three singles matches.

In doubles competition, sophomore Annie Horn and freshman Katelinn Wurm teamed up to take down Amelia Fabrzius and Kittey Edwards 8-6. The other two doubles matches were won by the Bulldogs by virtue of defaults.

In singles competition, sophomore Alison Ebel and freshman Kayla Smock won their matches in straight sets. Ebel won 6-2 and 6-3 while Smock won 6-1 and 6-0. Sophomore Hannah Boe narrowly lost to Fabrzius in three sets, 6-3, 2-6 and 10-8. The other three singles matches were won by Concordia by virtue of defaults.

The Bulldogs will be back in action at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19 against Southwestern College in Lincoln.
