Home Sports Track Teams Ready for GPAC Championships

The Concordia men’s and women’s track teams had their final indoor meet of the year before the GPAC Indoor Championships. The Bulldogs hosted the Concordia Indoor Invite Friday in Walz Arena.

The men’s and women’s teams combined to have seven first-place finishers. On the women’s side senior Kim Wood continued to turn in record-breaking performances. Wood won the 600-meter run with a school record time of 1:33.15. Wood now sits at No. 2 nationally in the 600-meter run.

Freshman McKenzie Gravo claimed a first-place finish in the women’s pole vault. Gravo vaulted 11’ 10 ¾” successfully.

On the men’s side, junior CJ Muller continued to perform well. Muller won the 200-meter run with a time 22.61 seconds, which edged second place by .01 seconds. Another close call came in the mile run when sophomore Pat Wortmann won with a time of 4:32.79, which bested second place by .09 seconds. Junior Lucas Wiechman won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.43.

In field events, junior Zach Lurz and senior Cody Boellstorff claimed first-place honors in shot put and weight throw. Lurz heaved the shot put 58’ 2”, which bested second place by over four feet. Boellstorff hurled a school record weight throw 68’ 9 ¼”, breaking his old record by about five inches.

The Bulldogs will now prepare for the GPAC Indoor Championships, which will be held in the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln on Feb. 19 and 20.
