Steady scoring from all around the court helped lead the No. 10 Concordia women’s basketball team to an 84-59 victory over the Doane Tigers on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs saw three players hit double-digit scoring, with three more exceeding five. Concordia was strong from three-point range with 37 percent of shots ending in points on the board. Overall, field goals were also solid on the night, with 49.2 percent hitting the mark.
The game was firmly in Concordia’s hands throughout, but the Bulldogs didn’t pull away until just before halftime, when they established a 10-point lead that they never looked back on.
Senior Raelyn Kelty was the star of the show for the Bulldogs. Kelty led all scoring with 19 points, shooting 8-11, and added eight rebounds. Junior Bree Bunting also achieved the 19-point mark and added three rebounds and two steals.
Freshman Ayla Roth rounded out the double-digit scorers with 14 of her own. Roth led the game in assists with four to go along with her six rebounds and three steals. Junior Juliana Jones was a good spark off the bench as she collected seven points, four rebounds and three assists.
The Bulldog defense had a strong night as they held the Tigers to under 60 points. It is the 14th time this season that the Bulldogs have achieved that feat.
Concordia was also able to utilize its bench throughout the game, as eight players got over 10 minutes of action, with two more seeing the court for over five.
Up next is a home matchup with Morningside, a team that the Bulldogs dispatched 72-49 in early January in Sioux City, Iowa. With the home court advantage, the Bulldogs will hope for a repeat result on Feb. 7. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
