Monarchs and More Conservation Club joined the roster of official campus clubs on Tuesday with unanimous approval by the Student Senate.
Junior Olivia Kohl and freshman Alicia Lopez, the club’s president and vice president, explained that Monarchs and More Conservation Club was created to protect and enhance local ecosystems with hands-on efforts in the Concordia and Seward communities.
Kohl said the club’s mission is “to create and preserve habitats, promote wildlife preservation, and form a connection between people and God’s creation.”
Monarchs and More Conservation Club aims to host workshop events, do fundraisers, and even build a pollinator garden on Concordia’s campus. Kohl said she wants to host meetings or activities every two weeks.
The club will request Senate funds for gardening supplies, materials for workshops such as wood for birdhouses, and payments for campus speakers, Kohl said.
Kohl said that a Seward resident has already asked the club to build a pollinator garden on their property.
Student Senate Elections
The four current Student Senate officers are graduating seniors, so elections are coming up to fill their positions for the 2026-2027 school year.
Contested elections for next year’s Senate officers will take place in mid-April. Voting for president and vice president will be open to the entire student body from April 14-17. Voting for treasurer and secretary will be open to Senate representatives who come to the Student Senate meeting on April 21 at 6:15 p.m.
The names of Senate candidates and short campaign messages were sent to undergraduate students on Wednesday in an email from the Student Life Office. More information will follow, said current vice president Ramona Ojeda.
