Students in Concordia’s Wind Ensemble returned to Nebraska on Sunday, March 12 after sharing their musical talents with an array of audiences in the Southeast.

Lead by Andrew Schultz, Wind Ensemble is a subset of Symphonic Band and has been preparing for the Spring Break tour since the first semester.  The ensemble learned a variety of pieces, from those with march-like rhythms to more smooth and legato compositions, and just about everything in between.

Students had the opportunity to not only enhance their musicianship on this tour but to experience life in the Southeast by staying with different host families.

“It gives us a chance to go to other places and show them what the Midwest is all about,” sophomore percussionist Nathan Klaumann said. “Getting the intermingle of cultures, especially in the South where most of us aren’t from—I think that makes it special.”

The group left for Missouri on March 2 and spent the remaining days driving and touring through Georgia, stopping in Florida and driving back through Illinois. They performed for various school assemblies during the day and held evening concerts in several different churches.

The tour made for many memorable experiences and moments to grow in fellowship.

I think one of the greatest gifts I’ve gained from this tour is the gift of friendship with these wonderful people,” sophomore tuba player Britnee Fear said. “God truly is great, and even though our Spring Tour is at its end, God’s glory and grace has no end.”
