Home Sports Bulldog Baseball Swept by Midland on Saturday

by Matthew Goedeken

Concordia’s baseball team lost a doubleheader to Midland University 3-9 and 4-16 on the night the team recognized its seniors.

The Bulldogs led for most of the game in game one. Concordia led for much of this game, going up three runs early on a pair of homers from sophomore Kaleb Geiger and junior Jacob Adams. Senior Mark Harris started on the mound and pitched 5.2 innings, giving up just five hits to a red-hot Midland team. Things unfolded in the seventh inning when Midland scored six runs, giving them a total of nine for the 9-3 win.

The second game was Midland the whole way, and Concordia not able to get the bats rolling until late in the seventh inning when senior Taylor Dudley hit a grand slam.

Dudley wasn’t necessarily thinking grand slam going into the at bat.

“I just wanted to do my job, get a sac fly or get a run across. I just swung hard, and it went over,” Dudley said.

Despite Dudley’s grand slam, Concordia lost 4-16.

The eight seniors on Concordia’s baseball team were recognized during the break between games: Alex Alstott, Drew ten Bensel, Mark Harris, Alex Cargin, Taylor Dudley, Taylor Bigandt, A.J. Peterson and Matt White.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Sunday, April 24 for a doubleheader at Doane College.  Game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Crete.

“Tomorrow (April 24) is going to be huge; we have to come out with a lot of intensity. If we can get those two wins tomorrow, we are going to be right back up there where we need to be,” Alstott said.
