Home Sports Bulldogs End Indoor Track Season with “Best Team Effort This Season”

The Bulldogs concluded their indoor season with the an outstanding performance in the Concordia Indoor Invite on Feb. 10 at the Walz Arena Fieldhouse.

This was the best team effort across all event areas that we have had this whole season,” coach Matthew Beisel said. “We needed this to give us some good focus and energy heading into our GPAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at Dordt College this coming weekend. Our athletes are hungry to improve their marks and times and compete.”

Senior Lucas Wiechman took first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.21 seconds and first in pole vault with a leap of 16’ 4 ¾”. Junior Nathan Matters took first in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:22.18. The men’s 4×400 team also took first with a time of 3:20.27. Senior Ben Hulett took second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.51 seconds.

Concordia throwing team showed up with senior Cody Boellstorff sweeping the weight throw with a launch of 66’ 5 ¼”. Senior Zach Lurz was right behind in third place with a throw of 62’1 ¼”.

The women’s shot put team locked up the top three spots, led by freshman Adrianna Shaw (47’ ¼”), followed by senior Kali Robb (46’ 4 ¼”) and junior Samantha Liermann (45”3’).

Robb also took first in the weight throw with a launch of 59’ 4”.

Sophomores McKenzie Gravo and Allie Brooks dominated the pole vault competition. Gravo, who is redshirting and currently competing unattached, won with a vault of 12’ 8 ¾”. Brooks took second with a vault of 12’ 4 ¾”.

Senior Marti Vlasin took second in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:38.66. Junior Emily Sievert also took second in the 1000-meter run with a time of 10:51.92.

The Bulldogs will next compete at Dordt College on Feb. 17-18 for the GPAC Indoor Championships.
