Home Sports Bulldogs fall to Midland in First Game of GPAC Season

The No. 20 Concordia volleyball team began their GPAC season against the defending GPAC Champions the No. 6 Midland Warriors on Wednesday, Aug. 31. Despite competing throughout the matches, the Bulldogs fell in three matches. On the season, Concordia stands at 1-6 overall and 0-1 in GPAC play.

The first and second set tipped in favor of the Warriors 25-21 apiece. Concordia notched seven kills in the first match to 12 kills by Midland. In the second set, Midland once again won the kill column 15-11.

The third set was not as close for the Bulldogs. Midland won 25-19, tallying 18 kills in the game.

Senior Paige Getz led the team with nine kills on the match. Senior Taylor Workman added another six kills and freshmen Alex La Plant and Emmie Noyd each notched five.

Senior setter Alayna Kavanaugh contributed 26 assists in the match, and junior libero Jocelyn Garcia led the team with 13 digs. Eight team service aces helped to balance out the 12 costly service errors.

Concordia continues their season this weekend with the home Bulldog Bash tournament. The Bulldogs will play two matches on Friday at 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. The Bulldogs will also play two matches on Saturday at 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Volleyball action will continue throughout the two days in Walz Arena.
